MS vs. GI pipe fittingsWhile both MS and GI (galvanized iron) pipe fittings start with a mild steel base, they have a key difference:

• Galvanized Iron (GI): Features a zinc coating that provides superior resistance to rust and corrosion, making it ideal for water supply systems and high-moisture environments. However, this coating makes them slightly more expensive.
• Mild Steel (MS): Is not coated with zinc and is more susceptible to rust, especially in corrosive environments. For increased corrosion resistance, MS fittings can be painted, powder-coated, or otherwise treated. They are, however, more affordable and structurally stronger than GI fittings for heavy-duty applications.
